What Comes First?

Almost all believers knows this verse. Faith without works is dead. Like a bullet loaded to a gun, waiting to be fired so is their lips ready to launch the verse. Whenever somebody is in need of healing such as that from a heart disease,  usually they quote “Faith without works is dead”. They also wake up very early in the morning everyday to exercise in order to get well

Let me be blunt. No amount of exercise can add to your health. No kind of food intake or take can add to your health either. In fact everything that surrounds us, the air we breath, the water or the toothpaste we use everyday can cause us to become sickly. Quite the opposite? Well, even sunshine may cause certain skin disease and cancer. scientist said that. What a scary though.

At the cross, Jesus became Sin (though he knew no sin) so that we become Righteous(nothing we have done or can do to become).

At the cross Jesus became Sickness (he was never sick, he healed the sick) so that we can become healthy(nothing we have done or can do to become).

At the cross Jesus died young (He never became old, he was born to die) so that we can live longer(nothing we have done or can do to become)

Having established that, it was all of Jesus’ doing and not our own doing. Shall we put our faith in Jesus now?

Ask Yourself What Comes first? Faith or Works?

Consider this

Faith means Rest (Not Working)

Work means Restless (Working)

Do you know that long before you pray for your problem, God already knew your problem? Before Jesus died at the cross he said

Matthew 6:7 (LEB)

7 “But when you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the pagans, for they think that because of their many words they will be heard.

Now, do you know that when you pray for healing it has been done already? After Jesus died at the cross he said

John 19:30 (LEB)

30 Then when he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed,” and bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.

Faith is not based on facts. Facts change. But Faith is based on the Truth (Jesus). Truth never change. Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever.

All diseases in this world we live in, are incurable. Now hold your horses. Hold that stone. I have a point to make here.

Let’s take leprosy. If for example leprosy was curable. Then why is leprosy, still in existence today? Jesus healed the the person infected by that disease some 2000 years ago, right? It was incurable once, but a few years ago it became curable. But the source of leprosy is still around the corner, so as with tuberculosis and other disease.

I honestly believe, Healing from Jesus is different from being Cured. Cure is like patching a cloth. Healing is replacing the entire thing! Whenever I hear a testimony of someone getting healed usually the doctor is amazed. It is as if a new heart has grown or a new kidney has come in. You see unlike medicine, where it only tries to make something well temporary and of course with side effects.

Before Jesus death at the Cross, The sins of the people were covered by the bloods of bulls or goats for one year. Like patching up a torn cloth.

Hebrews 9:7 (LEB)

7 but only the high priest enters into the second tent once a year, not without blood, which he offers on behalf of himself and the sins of the people committed in ignorance.

After Jesus death at the Cross, all (past, present and future) our sins were washed away by the eternal blood of Jesus, forever. Like replacing a new cloth.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (LEB)

17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.

honestly I believe HIV (Aids) has been in this world after the fall of Man in the garden. Also Cancer, Flu (all kinds), Fever (all kinds), inflammations, all sorts of Infirmities. Name all the sickness you know and they were existent after Man’s fall in the garden.

Jesus bore our Infirmities (plural) at the Cross

Isaiah 53:4 (CEB)

4 It was certainly our sickness that he carried, and our sufferings that he bore, but we thought him afflicted, struck down by God and tormented.

Jesus was infected with Aids, He got Cancer. He had all kinds of Flu. He had all kinds of Fever even varieties of asthma, various bacteria, viruses, micro organism, nano organism. Name them all. All this sickness has been imputed to him at the cross, Just like our sins.

Jesus is the Name above every Name. All kinds of diseases our scientist in this generation will discover in the future, was imputed at the body of Jesus at the cross. He bore our infirmities and carried our sorrows. Just like our Sins today(that is future), Jesus bore all our Past, Present and Future Sins. So all diseases. Past, Present and Future sickness was imputed to Jesus at the cross.

If today there is a kind of disease not embedded to Jesus’ body at the cross, then You and I are going to be in a lot of trouble. But Praise be unto God. He did not missed any iota or disease.

Therefore, Faith is not conjuring or creating something out of nothing. Your healing is already done. It’s there at the cross. Look unto the cross. Faith is knowing and believing the Truth (Jesus). Jesus said. “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” – John 14:6

Now that your Faith is established, Let’s look at works in a contrast

How About Works Is Dead Without Faith?

In the book of James, it says works and faith go together.

Years ago whenever I lost a Job, I immediately send dozen of resumes to prospect companies. I would then Pray hard, fast and pay tithes!. In times like this, what else does a Christian do ei? this were my days of being under Law. So obviously it was my self effort to get blessings (reward). I knew how the merit and the rewards based system works. But we know that the Law requires works and you produce dead works.

After a month of waiting, no companies have replied. no, not even an email template with “…kept for future reference” in my inbox. then I called former colleagues and friends. still nothing. nada. so frustrating!!!

Let’s Fast Forward. just a few months ago, I lost a Job. but this time, I lost this job that I never applied for. A month before I lost that job, two invitations for job interview came in my inbox, of which I never applied for. in simple words, this time I am not looking for jobs. God is looking for jobs for me. And mind you, I get interviews not local employment but overseas! I opted for local employment, but then few days after, I am still receiving more job interviews!

But this time, I got to pick the company I want and would decline offers and interviews politely. why? because there are so many of them! So how in this world did that happen? No answer for that except, God’s Grace. Merely resting in Jesus. Trusting only in his finish work. No, not my work but His work.

If there is a key, maybe the key is acknowledging and thanking God for the greatest blessing and miracle that is Salvation. That is the truth. If you ignore Jesus’ death at the cross which is the greatest blessing and the Truth, You will find it hard to think of the lesser blessings happening. Put emphasis on Jesus’ and on your greatest blessing – Salvation -and see the lesser ones flow effortlessly.

Faith Comes First, Then Works Follow

When you are under Grace, Your faith [that is looking into Jesus] will produce works [, that is living works]. The kind of works You produce [effortlessly] are the evidence of the Faith you have in Jesus. These is simply the manifestation of your Faith.

Remember, Jesus is the Author and Finisher of your Faith. My friend, If you conjure something and calls it Faith then that’s not faith. But when You look into Jesus because you believe in Him – Jesus calls it Faith.

Hebrews 12:22 (LEB)

22 But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem, and to tens of thousands of angels, to the festal gathering

Faith is no more than seeing Jesus. And he who began a good Work in you will continue to complete it.

Philippians 1:6 (LEB)

6 convinced of this same thing, that the one who began a good work in you will finish it until the day of Christ Jesus

Finally know this. Faith comes first before Work. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God

Romans 10:17 (LEB)

17 Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word about Christ.
