What Is The Work Of God?

John 6:29 (LEB)

29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God: that you believe in the one whom that one sent.”

What Is The Will Of God?

John 6:40 (LEB)

40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks at the Son and believes in him would have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

From Believe To Believing

Have you ever been asked “what is the will of God?” or “what is the work of God?”. Probably yes or probably no. Good thing I wasn’t asked those questions before because my answer would be …

… The will of God is “for you to be a servant”?

… The work of God is “fasting, quite time, overnight prayer meeting, witnessing”?

Was that your answer too? sadly it’s not the right scriptural answer. Those are the fruit of God’s will and God’s work in you (work out your salvation…for it is God who works in you to will and to act for his good purpose – Phil 2:12-13).

The will and the work of God is to “Believe

Just like that? just believe? Yes my friend. Believing is the key to your faith.

Notice, the emphasis on God’s will and God’s work –> believe

Romans 1:17 (LEB)

17 For the righteousness of God is revealed in it from faith to faith

The Work Of God Is For You To Believe – No Effort To Exert?

Yes, you do not need to do anything. Consider Abraham

Abraham had Isaac and Ishamel as sons. Look at what God said to Abraham.

Genesis 22:2 (NKJV)

2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac”

Wait a second. Your only son? Lord, Abraham had two sons?

The only fruit acceptable to God is the fruit resulting from believing,

The fruit from self effort is not worthy of worship to God. Ishmael is a fruit of self effort. See what happens when you exert effort or try to help God.

When you perform long prayers, overnight prayer meetings, fasting, playing musical instruments … based on your effort, sadly this works resulting from your efforts are not worthy of God. But when God works in you, you produce effortless fruits. You will pray short yet powerful prayers, no overnights rather you sleep on it, you spend time with the Lord and you forget about your lunch, your heart sings and your musical instruments are just its extension.

The fruit of believing is rest. why? e.g. because when you believe your someone paid for your credit card debts, you have rest in your soul.

Hebrews 4:11 (KJV)

11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief

What a statement. “Let us Work to get into Rest or else we fall into unbelief – resulting in unrest, stressed.”

Don’t spend countless hours at the office to gain promotion. Believe your heavenly Father have promoted you already. Rest, no I did not said become lazy and sleep at work. Rest, don’t spend your health to gain wealth.

The Will Of The Father Is For You To Believe – Not To Be A Servant?

Brother or Sister in Christ Jesus. We are freed from being servants. You and I are called children of God

John 1:12 (LEB)

12 But as many as received him—to those who believe in his name—he gave to them authority to become children of God

Do you believe you are a child of God and that He is your Father? You serve God not because you are a servant, commanded and bound to serve. No you serve your Father in heaven because you knew how much of His love for you. And that love for you is Jesus.

You can never serve or love God without knowing Jesus, How much is Jesus meant to His Father.

John 3:16 (NKJV)

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

When you believe in Jesus, you are doing the work of God and by doing so you fulfill His will, that is to believe
