it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy”
– 1 Peter 1:16

What is holiness? sinless-ness? are you sinless? is holiness obedience to the Law? doing good? hating sin?

“And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done”
– Genesis 2:3

Holiness means perfection. when Jesus bore all our sins at the cross, He did a perfect work and called out “it is finish”. Christ perfected our forgiveness of sins. past, present & future sins are perfectly forgiven.

Holiness is not ..

holiness is not sinless-ness, at least not you. Christ is the one sinless. holiness is perfection, at least not you but Christ who is perfect.

everything Christ is, is you. Jesus represents you. “as Jesus is so are you ..”

now, question. Are you holy? you see if you try to be holy based on your actions then you are not holy. you will never be. If you though holiness means sinless-ness, then you are not even close to becoming holy. if you believe holiness is keeping the Law or that being obedient to it, then Christ is of no effect unto you.

If you are in Christ, then you are already holy! believe it or not

  • a genuine believer can commit sin and still is holy
  • a genuine believer can commit sin and still is justified / righteous
  • a genuine believer can commit sin and still is saved

“It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God–that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption”
– 1 Corinthians 1:30 NIV

“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption”
– 1 Corinthians 1:30 KJV

Holiness is a person. Righteousness, Wisdom, Redemption (Yeshua) is a person and not an ‘it’. it is in vain to attempt to be righteous by obedience. it is useless to be holy by trying to not commit sin.

Boast in the Lord

Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”
– 1 Corinthians 1:31

Christ is our holiness. BOAST IN THE PERFECT WORKS OF CHRIST!

“Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith”
– Romans 3:27

“if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God”
– Romans 4:2

Let us not boast on our good works, self-control over sin. no. let us boast in Christ our Holiness!

The Law is holy. But it cannot make one holy

the Law is holy & righteous. but it cannot make us holy. rather, the Law shows forth our sin and wickedness. the Law points to Christ

“But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify”
– Romans 3:21

in terms of righteousness, holiness, wisdom and salvation : the Law points to Christ and not to us

in terms of sinfulness, wickedness, foolishness and being lost : the Law points to us

Are we holy because we confess sins daily?

we maintain that Christ is our holiness. whether by good works or by bad works, we cannot add or deduct to holiness. God’s work is holy. God’s work is perfect.

does sinless-ness means holy? if it was, then we are all doom! we all sin. from hate to murder. the same sin. period. but Christ’s righteousness is imputed to those who believes in Him and that God judged all our sins in Christ.

therefore this command  – “Be holy, because God is holy” means

  • Act holy because you are already holy
  • Act righteous because you are already righteous
  • Love because you are already loved
  • Forgive because God in Christ Jesus has already forgiven you
  • work out salvation because you are already saved

No longer a process

we are not being made holy. we are not in the process of being holy! there is no hope in this flesh. put no confidence in the flesh.

we are already holy. we are already sanctified. because Christ is holy & sanctified

“And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all
– Hebrews 10:10

“because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy”
– Hebrews 10:14

by rather trying your best to be righteous and holy, why not (repent) change your mind and let holiness and righteousness manifest?

Without holiness no one can see God

“without holiness no one will see the Lord”
– Hebrews 12:4

same question. how can one be holy? is it by doing good works? by obedience? by observing the Law? by confessing sins everyday? may it never be!

Without Christ, no one will see the GOD

The one who will stand before GOD is the one whom clothed with the robe of righteousness. the robe who is Christ himself.

The one who will see GOD is the one whom Christ is his holiness.

The one who will be saved is the one whom Christ is his salvation / redemption

Rather by trying to become, why not believe that you already have become in Christ ? don’t try to be a son, live like a son! don’t try to be holy, be holy!
