Hebrews 10:22-23 (NIV)

22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful

notice : the assurance of faith, our hearts cleansed from a guilty conscience, hold firmly the hope for God is full of faith

Hebrews 11:1-2 (NIV)

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for

notice : the forefathers were commended for their confidence in the hope of the coming messiah, an assurance assured by God even before the creation of the world

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him

notice : impossible.

Faith is impossible without Jesus

Is it possible to please God by –

1. Good works? nope.

2. Follow Jesus and nail oneself to the cross? nope.

3. Obedience to the Law, the 10 commandments perfectly? nope.

It is impossible to have faith without Jesus. because faith comes by hearing and hearing the gospel which is about Jesus.

look at Abraham, “Abraham was justified by faith”

Abraham was justified because of what Jesus is going to do in the FUTURE.

Peter, James and John was justified by Jesus in their PRESENT.

Today, Now, We are justified by what Jesus did in the PAST.

Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. those who believes in Him are justified from all things. Justified not by works but by faith, the faith that comes by hearing and hearing the gospel of Christ.

Justified by Faith that comes by hearing

but how do we get faith? do we need to obey the Law? do we need to please God? do we need to do good works in order to have faith?

my friend, “good works”, “obedience”, “worship” comes after faith. Faith results to doing all this “good works”, because faith works.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing the gospel which is about Jesus.

get back to the scripture. learn more about Jesus, hear more about Jesus. Faith comes, not earned. faith comes, not bought. faith comes not rewarded. see Jesus in the scripture, He is there in every book, every letter, every phrase, every word

Faith is not a mediator

don’t have enough faith? then how can you please God? how can you even come boldly to God? but no! Faith is not the issue here.

Faith is not a mediator between God and man. Jesus is the mediator between God and man, for Jesus is “the Man”.

not enough faith? hear the gospel about Jesus!

too little faith? hear the gospel about Jesus!

wavering faith? hear the gospel about Jesus!

Jesus is full of faith, He is faithful. “He will never leave you nor forsake you”

how about no faith? good! hear the gospel about Jesus. the dead shall arise! Like Lazarus who was dead, no faith, no life.

Summary

Abraham lied 2 times, did not fully obeyed God. how did he pleased God?
– was it because Abraham obeyed God to slay Isaac his son?

– was it because Rahab “lied” to protect the spies?

David a murder, an adulterer! how did he pleased God?
– was it because David was quick to repent?

Abraham? It was because of Jesus. he believed in the seed

Rahab the gentile? It was because he believe in Jesus, the savior of the Israel.

David? was he the father of Solomon, Solomon whose mother was the result of adultery? and whose great great great son named Jesus?

David? He please God because of Jesus.

David a man after God’s own heart. God’s own heart is Jesus. how? go back to Abraham and think why God said “take your only son the son you love”.
